Making More Space and Time For Ideas

It’s been a year like no other, with most of us experiencing lockdown and many facing ongoing restrictions. It’s been a strange and anxious time, with education interrupted and educators finding themselves under intense new pressure. Children have shown incredible resilience adapting to life in lockdown, away from their school and routines and their friends but the impact on them is something that only time will truly show.

I’ve been talking to educators a lot in the past few months as we work on our new book, and many tell me that a priority for them has been motivating young people to enjoy learning. They also tell me that for some children, Covid-19 brings a lot of questions and uncertainty about the future, and part of their work is to keep giving young people opportunities to explore and share their feelings.

With this in mind we keep adding to our education resources that support the new book Visions of the Future. Take a look, and please let me know what you think or if there are any particular topics or resources that would be useful to you.

We also know that planning time to work on submissions – either at home or in school – is a little unusual this year with so many changes. So, we’ve decided to extend the deadline for submissions until 30th June. This still gives us time to get the book published later this year, and hopefully means that as many young people as possible can get involved.

When we first came up with the topic Visions of the Future for the new book we had no idea that we would be doing this book in the midst of a global pandemic. From the submissions that are coming in so far, I’m excited to see that the ambitions and hopes of the next generation are far from dampened by these unprecedented times. I can’t wait to read more.
