About WriteUnite

We are committed to supporting young people across the world.

Young people have things to say and opinions to share about the world we live in, and they want us to listen and take their ideas seriously. WriteUnite brings these voices and opinions together through our creative themes, publishing young people’s work and sharing them with the world. Our projects have also shown that whilst we may live in different places or under different circumstances, we share many similar ideas, hopes and dreams.

Our vision is a world where all young people’s voices are heard, respected and responded to.

So far, we have published submissions from over 2700 students in 35 countries on six continents in our three books: The Perfect World, I Believe I Can… and Visions of the Future.

We work with well-established organisations doing work on the ground to help us achieve our mission. Our partners include the Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation, Trampled Rose and Les Enfants de Frankie and we are always looking to work with other organisations.

From Our Founder, Omara Elling-Hwang

I founded WriteUnite as a teenager because of my personal experience. I had just finished my IGCSEs and even though I had amazing teachers and supportive adults around me, I was frustrated about how difficult it was to get people to take my ideas seriously. I experienced this myself and also witnessed it in my friends. I realised I wanted to do something about it.

WriteUnite was born out of a desire to give young people across the world a platform to talk about their ideas, hopes and dreams for our world. Until we ask, we will never know how students feel about things that matter to us all.

Meet Omara Elling-Hwang | WriteUnite

I know how hard it is to make things happen. In fact, I ended up pausing WriteUnite for almost four years as I was finishing university and starting out in my career. But, I also know that when something is important to you, there’s only so long you can ignore it. Our world is changing before our eyes and creating unity is now more important than ever.

Words, stories and books are powerful, inspiring things and are a wonderful way to create community. WriteUnite aims to create books that are crammed full of creative work from children globally sharing their ideas, feelings and aspirations. By amplifying the voices of students from all over the world around a single subject and bringing them together in one place, it’s impossible to deny the wisdom of young people.”

Omara graduated with a BSc in Politics & International Relations and formerly worked in NonFiction Editorial at a commercial publishing house.

Support WriteUnite

WriteUnite is a non-profit organisation that exists thanks to the generosity of donations and the sales of our books. All our money goes towards providing opportunities and resources to children to help them feel empowered and able to create a better future for themselves, their communities and the world.
